The Banyan Story

The most prominent feature of the banyan tree is its aerial prop roots that start out as branches and slowly grow toward the ground and form new trunks. The largest banyan tree in the world is in India but one of the more famous ones is in Lahaina on Maui in Hawaii. This tree, with its dozens of trunks, covers almost an acre in the town's courthouse square and supports a massive canopy.
